Our Impact 2017-2019
Since 2017, we are immensely proud to have worked directly alongside 60+ young women and indirectly with a further 100+ delivering the following programmes.
Through Sister System, we aim to reduce the challenges that girls in care face:
-
45% of looked after children (5-17 yrs) have a mental health difficulty compared to 10% of the general population (NSPCC 2017)
-
1 in 3 girls in care are sexually abused (NSPCC 2017)
-
188,000 more girls than boys are NEET (ONS 2017)
-
Looked after children’s average GCSE Attainment 8 score in England was 19.3 in 2017 (compared to 44.5 for general population)
-
1 in 4 girls in care will have a diagnosable mental health illness (NHS 2016)
" Sister System’s multi-year approach, based around building long-term trusted relationships to support girls in contact with the care system to succeed in school and raise aspirations, is desperately needed.
As impressive is Sister System’s commitment to working with the head as well as the heart in placing a
framework for understanding impact at the forefront of what they are trying to achieve."
James Gubb, Investment Manager at Impetus-PEF
